Training Tip  -  March 1, 2010   CHANGE

this is a testDO NOT FEAR CHANGE OR LET THE THOUGHT OF CHANGE CRIPPLE YOUR BUSINESS! TAKE CONTROL AND HARNESS THE WINDS OF CHANGE AND USE IT TO BE BETTER, AND REACH HEIGHTS OTHERS ONLY DREAM OF REACHING.  IT REALLY IS UP TO YOU. Coach Bob

Since change will happen if we like it or not,  we must embrace it and plan for it. Do not change for change sake alone, but to implement changes that are for the better,  here are a few tips to plan for change.

Keep promoting change – by engaging your employees for new ideas, make them part of the process and they will accept positive changes, and surprise you with even more ideas that will set you apart from your competitors.

Remove any standards or traditions that have no purpose but inhibit progress or change. Evaluate if a procedure is no longer relevant and remove them when they serve no purpose. Constant review of procedures for relevancy should be a standard of excellence.

If you have always done it that way, it is probably wrong. Charles Kettering

If a big change is coming (retirement of a key person, building project, new insurance program,  etc…) plan ahead so the change does not hamper the moral of the company. Communicate early and often that things do not ever stay the same.  Always keep a steady hand and develop new leadership and promote new ideas.

Make expectations clear… Key employees should know that embracing change is part of their job description and we must all think ahead.

If you don't like change, you're going to like irrelevance even less. General Eric Shinseki

Do not let change catch you by surprise.

Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawback and discomforts. Arnold Bennett

Do not let those who grumble about change be the reason you do not make a positive change.
